Meredith C. Slawe is a partner in Drinker Biddle & Reath’s Litigation Group and a Vice Chair of the firm’s Class Actions Team. Meredith is a highly accomplished attorney who focuses on the defense of purported class actions and complex commercial litigation matters in courts across the country. She has extensive experience representing companies in a range of actions, including matters related to cutting-edge technology and privacy issues.
Meredith is a leader in the firm’s interdisciplinary Retail Industry Group and has a deep understanding of issues facing retailers, including data privacy and security, product labeling and advertising, omni-channel marketing, customer outreach, behavioral marketing, promotional pricing, hiring practices, automatic renewals, e-commerce, and compliance with a host of statutes, including the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACTA), Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA), Electronic Communications Privacy Act (ECPA), Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, Computer Fraud and Abuse Act (CFAA), Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA), Video Privacy Protection Act (VPPA), Truth-in-Consumer Contract, Warranty and Notice Act (TCCWNA), California False Advertising Law (Bus. & Prof. Code 17500), California Unfair Competition Law (Bus. & Prof. Code 17200), California Invasion of Privacy Act (Cal. Meredith is counsel to some of the world’s leading and most recognized companies and is widely regarded as a rising star in the class action defense bar. A trusted, confident and effective litigator, Meredith works tirelessly to ensure that her clients receive unparalleled service in their most challenging cases and against the most skilled adversaries. She has an outstanding record, disposing of cases early through aggressive case strategy, defeating cases on the merits, compelling individual arbitration, and successfully challenging class certification. In addition to defending her clients in high stakes litigation, Meredith also counsels them on compliance issues in light of the evolving regulatory landscape. Meredith also is skilled at conducting sensitive internal investigations.
Meredith is a thought leader in the defense of proposed class actions brought under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act. She is a key member of the firm’s TCPA Team and is a force behind the defense of numerous TCPA actions, including cases related to calls, text messages and faxes. Meredith is regularly asked to speak and publish on TCPA-related topics and she is a frequent contributor to the firm’s blog (tcpablog.com). She has profound knowledge of the nuances of the statute and has been the architect of winning strategies in TCPA cases. Meredith performs TCPA compliance audits for businesses in conjunction with members of the firm’s Government and Regulatory Affairs Group.
After graduating from Dartmouth College and the University of Pennsylvania Law School, Meredith joined Drinker Biddle & Reath as a full-time associate in Fall 2005. Since that time, she has been involved in many firm activities in a number of different roles. Meredith is presently Co-Chair of the firm’s Summer Associate Program, a member of the firm’s Women’s Leadership Committee, a liaison to the Greater Philadelphia Chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel, an ambassador for the firm’s recruiting efforts, a Partner Member of the firm’s Associates Committee, and a participant in the firm’s Associate Mentoring Program. Meredith serves on the Corporate Executive Board of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, on the University of Pennsylvania Alumni Board of Managers and on the Moore College of Art and Design Visionary Women Planning Committee. She is an interviewer for Dartmouth College in Philadelphia and Montgomery Counties. Meredith has performed with the Philly Pops Festival Chorus at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts.
Meredith lives in the Philadelphia suburbs with her husband and three young children.
In 2016, Meredith was selected by the University of Pennsylvania Law School to receive the “Rising Star Award,” which honored established and future women leaders showing great promise and professional achievement in their first 10 years following graduation.
