Brian C. Rupp is an accomplished patent practitioner and legal strategist with extensive experience as both in-house and outside patent counsel. Over the course of a career spanning three decades, Brian has advised some of the world’s largest and most sophisticated companies on critical patent disputes and litigation management, IP procurement strategy, licensing, technology development, and corporate transactions. Brian provides in-depth counsel on a full spectrum of patent matters, ranging from prosecution to strategy, opinions to dispute resolution, negotiation to deals, and competitive analysis to intellectual property portfolio management. His extensive technical background in physics and electrical engineering has led to significant experience in matters relating to electronics and computer software, while his work with significant global innovators has led to unique insights into the intersection of intellectual property and international commerce.
From 1995 through 1998, Brian was on leave of absence from the firm while serving in Seoul, South Korea, as patent counsel for Samsung Display Devices (now Samsung SDI) and Samsung Aerospace Industries (now merged into Samsung Electronics). In this capacity, he was responsible for intellectual property matters, including litigation, licensing, patent prosecution, and technology collaboration relationships. Samsung SDI is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of display products and rechargeable batteries, and Samsung Techwin manufactured digital cameras and digital imaging technology.
