Carrie A. Beyer is an accomplished trial lawyer with broad experience litigating high-stakes intellectual property disputes in courts and judicial forums around the nation. Carrie’s extensive IP litigation experience includes trials in Delaware, Texas, California, and Illinois, actions before the International Trade Commission, contested proceedings at the USPTO, and arbitrations. Notable results include jury verdicts of no willful patent infringement, a finding of no violation by the ITC, a significant arbitration award in a breach-of-contract matter, a jury verdict of patent infringement, and a directed defense verdict on trademark, false advertising, and unfair competition claims.
Carrie has significant experience leading teams in inter partes review proceedings before the Patent Trial & Appeal Board, representing clients in nearly two dozen IPRs, and defending favorable PTAB decisions at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. She has contributed to Drinker Biddle’s PTAB Trial Blog and spoken extensively on IPR and IP litigation strategy.
With a background in electrical engineering, Carrie has used her scientific experience in a variety of cases touching on the intersection of technology and commerce. She has represented clients in matters dealing with smart phones and tablets, blenders, dental ceramics, multifocal contact lenses, user interfaces for retail websites, medical records software, tax calculation software, apparel, container inspection systems, fastener feeding systems, wireless phones, portable music players, digital cameras, modular jacks, and advertising display systems, to name just a few.
As a complement to her litigation practice, Carrie counsels clients on a variety of sophisticated intellectual property issues, assists clients with due diligence in business transactions, and has prepared and prosecuted patent applications in the electrical, mechanical and related arts for clients in the aerospace, consumer electronics, toy, and telecommunications industries.
Prior to practicing law, Carrie worked as an engineer at Hamilton Sundstrand Aerospace, a United Technologies company now known as Collins Aerospace.
