Carrie A. Beyer is an experienced litigator who represents clients in all types of intellectual property cases, with a particular focus on litigation of complex and sophisticated patent infringement and validity matters. She represents plaintiffs and defendants in all phases of litigation, from pre-suit investigations through trial and appeal, in federal trial and appellate courts throughout the country.
Carrie’s experience includes trials in federal courts in Delaware, Texas, California, and Illinois as well as before the International Trade Commission and an arbitration panel. Results included obtaining jury verdicts of no willful patent infringement, a finding of no violation by the ITC, a significant award in favor of our client in a breach-of-contract matter, a jury verdict of patent infringement, and a directed defense verdict on trademark, false advertising, and unfair competition claims.
In addition, Carrie has significant experience with contested proceedings at the USPTO, having represented clients in more than twenty inter partes review proceedings before the Patent Trial & Appeal Board and in defending favorable PTAB decisions at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. She also has contributed to Drinker Biddle’s PTAB Trial Blog.
With a background in electrical engineering, Carrie has handled cases in a wide variety of technical areas. Prior cases have related to products including smart phones and tablets, blenders, dental ceramics, multifocal contact lenses, user interfaces for retail websites, medical records software, tax calculation software, apparel, container inspection systems, fastener feeding systems, wireless phones, portable music players, digital cameras, modular jacks, and advertising display systems.
In addition to her litigation practice, Carrie counsels clients on a variety of intellectual property issues, assists clients with intellectual property and litigation due diligence in connection with business transactions, and has assisted clients on matters relating to data security breaches. Carrie also has prepared and prosecuted patent applications in the electrical, mechanical and related arts for clients in the aerospace, consumer electronics, toy, and telecommunications industries.
Prior to practicing law, she gained broad product design experience as an engineer at Hamilton Sundstrand Aerospace, a United Technologies company now known as Collins Aerospace.
