President Ilisa Halpern Paul will moderate a day-long roundtable discussion hosted by The ALS Association in October in Washington, D.C. Paul and DPG have helped plan and conduct three other ALS Association−hosted policy roundtable forums in North Carolina, Texas, and Washington, D.C. The ALS Association convenes roundtables to bring together its community and other stakeholders to discuss and solve issues of priority to individuals and families affected by ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
Paul also will participate in a fireside chat hosted by client Advocate Aurora Health (AAH) in Elgin, IL, in mid-October. The panel discussion, moderated by AAH Chief Government Affairs Officer Joyce Rogers, will provide AAH Senior Operations Leaders with federal legislative and regulatory updates, insights, analysis, and a 2020 outlook.
Executive Vice President Jodie Curtis serves as co-chair of the Neglected Tropical Disease Roundtable, where she represents the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH). Curtis orchestrated the organization’s inaugural congressional reception celebrating the U.S. commitment to fighting neglected tropical diseases, where she introduced Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) and USAID Global Health Bureau Acting Assistant Administrator Irene Koek.
Additionally, ASTMH recently conducted its annual Alan Magill briefing on Capitol Hill, focused on the Department of Defense and fighting malaria—a briefing fully orchestrated by Curtis and the DPG team in conjunction with ASTMH. Curtis recently attended the Value Summit in New Orleans hosted by client Ochsner Health System and the Kinetix Group, with industry leaders gathered to focus on value-based health care.
Senior Vice President Laura Hanen recently supported the Big Cities Health Coalition in conducting a congressional briefing it co-hosted with the American Academy of Pediatrics, focused on the measles outbreaks of 2018-2019. The event featured leading advocates and practitioners, including public health officials from New York City and Los Angeles County.
Hanen also is working with the Alliance for Aging Research and the Friends of the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) Reauthorization, a reauthorization slated for this year. These organizations recently conducted a Capitol Hill advocacy day for several dozen PCORI Ambassadors and volunteers. These advocates are spreading the word about the importance of stakeholder-engaged research and working at the community level through partnerships, engagement initiatives, and priority setting efforts to shift the manner in which research is conducted.
