Philadelphia counsel Stephen Stroup authored “SEC Chief Accountant Shines Spotlight on Audit Committees” for the Journal of Investment Compliance.

The SEC’s Chief Accountant, Wesley Bricker, gave remarks earlier this year at the Baruch College Financial Reporting Conference, where he discussed the importance and responsibility of corporate audit committees. In this article, Steve analyzes Mr. Bricker’s remarks, concentrating on three notable areas: the role of audit committees in understanding non-GAAP measures presented to the public; audit committees’ attention to disclosures regarding changes in market risks; and the importance of independent, diverse thinking on corporate boards, and particularly audit committees, as an element of strong corporate governance.
