Philadelphia partner Scott Coffina wrote an article for the The Legal Intelligencer, titled, “The Winding Road of Pennsylvania's Voter ID Litigation.”
Scott discussed the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania’s August 15th rejection of a challenge under Pennsylvania's constitution to the state's new voter identification law.
In a previous article for the Legal, Scott noted that that battles over voter identification laws “create fascinating political and legal theater,” and this one has not disappointed, he said.
Scott’s latest article discusses the highlights of the Voter ID litigation, both inside and outside of the courtroom, and the Commonwealth Court’s opinion.
He notes that the Pennsylvania Supreme Court has agreed to hear argument on the petitioners' appeal of the Commonwealth Court's decision on September 13, so “there are sure to be many twists and turns left in the voter ID battle, including a decision from the state's highest court before Election Day.”
