Congress is in the midst of holding hearings relating to the collapse of Wall Street, in order to better understand what precipitated the failures, and to hear proposals for creating a better model of regulation of investment firms and the products they sell to the public. The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee held a four-hour hearing – "Hedge Funds and the Financial Market" – on Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008, to determine systemic risks posed on the economy by hedge funds and to assess the need for implementing regulatory measures in the industry.
