On August 22, 2006, President Bush signed an executive order requiring the Health and Human Services Department, the Defense Department, the Veterans Affairs Department and the Federal Employees Health Benefit Program to compile information about the quality and price of health care and to pay for and share such information with their customers and each other. The order is designed to help people make more informed decisions about their health care, including which doctors and hospitals they choose for care.
