Drinker Biddle has named new leaders for its national Class Actions Team. Partner Paul Cauley will chair the group, while partners Mike Daly, Matt Fedor, and Justin Kay will serve as vice chairs. The Class Actions Team defends clients in the automotive, energy, health care, insurance, pharma, retail, and utilities industries, and counsels clients on best practices for minimizing the risk of being targeted by the plaintiffs’ bar.

Paul Cauley is an experienced trial lawyer and class action attorney, who regularly serves as national lead counsel in coordinated and multidistrict litigation throughout the country. For the last several years he has led the defense of an automaker in all litigation arising out of the Takata airbag recall, which is the largest in U.S. history. He has also served on the Board of the International Association of Defense Counsel (IADC) and as a faculty member for the IADC Trial Academy held at Stanford University, and is a sustaining member of the Product Liability Advisory Council.

Mike Daly is an authority on class action and consumer protection litigation who regularly writes and comments on recent decisions and developments in the class action arena. He defends putative class actions involving issues such as advertising, labeling, privacy, telemarketing, billing, credit reporting, and debt collecting. He also counsels clients on best practices for maximizing the defensibility of their marketing and the enforceability of their consumer contracts and dispute-resolution programs. Justin Kay defends complex civil matters in federal and state courts and before federal agencies. His consumer class action defense practice focuses on counseling and defending corporations in cases involving federal and state consumer protection laws. He also writes, speaks and serves as a resource for journalists reporting on such laws. His experience includes defending claims involving the TCPA, the Fair and Accurate Credit Transaction Act, and various other state and federal consumer protection statutes. He also serves as chair of the firm’s National Hiring Committee, which oversees the recruiting and hiring of associates, and was recognized by the Chicago Law Bulletin as one of 2018’s “40 under 40” and noted among Benchmark Litigation’s 2018 “40 & Under Hot List” for the second year in a row.
