Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP has expanded its Intellectual Property Group with the addition of David W. Higer as a partner in the firm’s Chicago office. He joins the firm from Kirkland & Ellis LLP.

Mr. Higer is an experienced trial lawyer who assists clients with patent litigation matters in federal district courts across the country. He has served as lead counsel on large cases with complex technical issues. His broad experience includes cases involving databases, digital imaging technology, embedded systems, encryption, gaming technology, medical devices, optics, semiconductor technology and telecommunications. He has also handled inter partes review proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.

During his career, Mr. Higer has represented clients in all aspects of patents, including trial and appellate litigation, alternative dispute resolution, and patent post-grant review. He also has trial and appellate litigation experience with architectural, pictorial, graphic and sculptural, and literary copyright works, as well as matters related to international copyright law.

Mr. Higer earned his J.D. from Gonzaga University School of Law and his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Washington.
