Albany health care partner Matthew Amodeo was quoted in a recent Modern Healthcare article titled “Independence-Minded Physicians Turn to ACOs.” Matthew discusses the benefits of participation in accountable care organizations (ACOs) for health systems and hospitals, explaining that ACO participation allows health systems to gain a patient population without directly employing local physicians. He added that independent doctors often refer patients to local hospitals or health systems when they belong to the same ACO because they provide care for the same population. The article explains, “It’s… unrealistic for a hospital or health system to employ all the doctors in the community, so it’s advantageous to have them as partners.”
