Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP has strengthened its insurance regulatory and transactional capabilities with the addition of Dan Brown as partner. Mr. Brown will be a member of the firm’s Insurance Regulatory and Transactional Team and reside in the firm’s San Francisco office.
“Adding a lawyer of Dan’s caliber significantly advances the goal to establish our nationally recognized insurance regulatory and transactional team in California, the country’s largest insurance market,” said Andrew C. Kassner, Chairman and CEO of Drinker Biddle. “Dan brings considerable regulatory and transactional experience to our national roster of insurance clients, and his relationships within the industry create a foundation for additional growth in our practice in California and nationally.”
Mr. Brown represents insurance companies, agents and brokers, and other participants in the admitted and surplus lines insurance markets in the United States. This includes advising non-U.S. insurers on how to comply with various state nonadmitted insurance laws; advising producers on licensing, placement and premium tax issues; and advising commercial insurance buyers. He also advises participants in the London market on how to comply with U.S. insurance laws.
Most recently, Mr. Brown was a partner at Dentons where he was a member of the Insurance Regulatory practice. Prior to joining Dentons (formerly Sonnenschein), he was at LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene & MacRae LLP in Portland, Ore., London and San Francisco.
“Dan’s deep familiarity with the California regulatory environment broadens our insurance capabilities beyond existing strengths in markets including Chicago, New Jersey, New York and Philadelphia,” said Neil K. Haimm, Chair of Drinker Biddle’s Corporate Practice Group. “He is a highly regarded member of the insurance legal community, both in California and nationally, who has previously worked closely with other members of our insurance team, including Mike Byrne, Tom Dawson and John Mulhern.”
Mr. Brown earned his law degree from Stanford Law School and his Bachelor of Science degree, summa cum laude, from Portland State University.
