New York partner Tom Dawson was quoted in a Law360 article titled, “Insurance Legislation And Regulation To Watch In 2017.” The article discussed the uncertainty surrounding potential changes to the global insurance industry, including capital standards, EU-US “covered agreement” negotiations, and other regulatory developments that the insurance industry will be tracking in 2017.
"The biggest overarching question with the new administration is going to be whether they do major, medium or minor surgery on Dodd-Frank and how deep they cut," said Tom.
Regarding international capital standards, Tom said that "how these initiatives will be affected depends a lot on who the FIO director will be and how Treasury Secretary Mnuchin feels about these matters."
"There are a lot of people who will have impact on how the FIO functions, even assuming there is no legislative action to clip the FIO's wings or place an additional layer of oversight," he added.
