The team sponsored the Insurance IoT USA Summit in Chicago on November 15-16. The summit is the largest meeting of the insurance and technology industries and focuses on how technology, particularly the Internet of Things, impacts how the insurance industry serves its customers. Partner Michael Byrne was a co-presenter on a panel titled “Regulatory hurdles and standardization over data sharing and IoT device use,” which covered topics such as regulatory plans for data ownership, cybersecurity and the implications for insurers, the do’s and don’ts of premium rewarding in IoT bundling packages, and how regulators should examine new innovations in the industry to ensure that the public and businesses are protected against risk. Counsel Michael Halsband and partner Jay Kallas also attended the conference.
Drinker Biddle’s InsurTech team also attended the InsurTech Connect 2016 conference in Las Vegas on October 5-6. Mike Byrne and partner Justin Watkins were at the event, which drew more than 1,500 traditional re/insurers, capital providers, intermediaries, corporate venture professionals, and service providers and regulators. The conference included panels and discussions on a variety of topics, such as user experience, corporate venture, regulatory challenges to innovation, and disruption and innovation in the industry.
