Albany partner Matt Amodeo was quoted in the Chicago Tribune on the subject of Illinois’ forthcoming open enrollment period for subsidized health care, due to begin on Oct. 1, 2013.

Subsidized health insurance is first major step in the overhauling the nation's health care system, however, not nearly enough of those eligible to receive government assistance are aware of the benefits they may be eligible to receive starting in 2014 or the penalties they'll have to pay if they don't get coverage.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois and Land of Lincoln Health, both major Illinois insurers, have launched outreach and educational campaigns to bring unknowing beneficiaries up to speed.

Matt explained that "the motivation for (insurers) to start now is to get ahead of the game and get as much enrollment in their plans as possible."

"The larger population they insure, the greater population on which to spread the risk and presumably the more money they'll make on the business,” he added.
