Managing Government Relations Director Ilisa Halpern Paul and her Government & Regulatory Affairs Lobbying & Advocacy Team were the subjects of a video interview and article in the National Law Journal.
The article, titled, “The Daily Grind,” printed on the front page of the December 3rd paper, described a typical day for the team, from down-to-earth meetings with clients and elected officials, to coaching citizen-lobbyists, who can make more of a personal connection with the congressional staffers they meet than professional lobbyists.
The article also discussed Ilisa’s career specifically and her “grasp of the big picture” when it comes to influencing the public policy process.
Ilisa also sat down with journalist Andrew Ramonas for a taped interview on the firm’s lobbying and advocacy practice. Ilisa explained that her team provides a fully faceted service, unique in its placement within a law firm environment. If a client needed something done within the sphere of advocacy, rather than hire one firm to do lobbying, one firm to do regulatory work, and another to do a congressional briefing, the client can come to Drinker Biddle & Reath and the Lobbying & Advocacy team can provide all those services under one roof.
Ilisa discussed the team’s recent successes, particularly with the Spina Bifida Association and the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance.
She also described the biggest challenges the team faces, such as the growing partisanship within Congress that stands in the way of lawmaking. She said one of the team’s goals, as a bipartisan group, is to bridge these divisions and rally support for common concerns. She noted an increasing area of work is the regulatory arena, where the team has been able to make gains and achieve results for clients.
