Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP is adding three partners to its highly regarded insurance practice. Thomas M. Dawson, John P. Mulhern and H. Michael Byrne join the firm’s Corporate & Securities Practice Group and are widely recognized as leaders in the insurance regulatory and transactional arenas, advising insurers, reinsurers and others in the marketplace on a wide range of regulatory, licensing and corporate matters, both in the United States and abroad.

Previously with Dewey & LeBoeuf, Dawson, Mulhern and Byrne are based in Drinker Biddle’s New York office, which moved to Midtown Manhattan this summer in response to client demands and to accommodate the firm’s growth in the market.

The group’s addition is an indication of the firm’s commitment to providing clients with unparalleled client service, said Alfred W. Putnam Jr., Drinker Biddle’s Chairman. “These are outstanding lawyers who have a particular knack for understanding their clients’ business and for being responsive to their unique needs,” he said.

In addition to insurers and reinsurers in the United States, London, Europe, Bermuda and Asia, the group’s client base includes domestic and international captives, producers, intermediaries, brokers, commercial buyers, alternative markets and trade associations.

Dawson, who has more than 30 years of experience advising international clients, said Drinker Biddle was the right place for the group’s practice.

“There is a focus from the firm on adding value at every step of the attorney-client relationship,” Dawson said. “That is a core ideal we share and one that is critical to us in protecting our clients’ interests.”

Robert C. Juelke, chair of Drinker Biddle’s Corporate & Securities Practice Group, said those shared ideals, along with the firm’s established insurance practice, made the two parties a “perfect fit.”

“As the markets continue to evolve, clients have been turning to us more and more for insurance transactional work,” Juelke said. “Adding Tom, John and Mike strengthens our ability to offer that type of service and enhances our regulatory practice at the same time.”

James M. Altieri, a Managing Partner of the firm and the Regional Partner in Charge of the New York office, said the group’s addition is key to increasing momentum surrounding the growth of the New York office.

“We are filling premier space with premier lawyers,” Altieri said. “Our clients are noticing and so are others.”
