Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP today welcomes Julie Scott Allen as a Government Relations Director in the Health Government Relations Practice.  The addition of Allen to the Washington, D.C.-based team of lawyers and government relations professionals adds further strength to Drinker Biddle’s capabilities in the health care arena and is part of a strategic growth initiative for this practice, which has expanded the practice from 12 to 16 lobbyists and government relations professionals since last year.

“We are very excited that Julie has joined our practice and our office,” said  Jim Jamieson, Jr., Chair of Drinker Biddle’s Government and Regulatory Affairs Practice Group and Regional Partner in Charge of the Washington, D.C., office. “We have continued to expand the services we offer to a growing number of health industry clients, and her addition to our health government relations practice allows us to offer our clients resources that will only become more important, in light of heath care reform.”

Allen specializes in legislative and regulatory matters and will support clients in addressing their issues before Congress and the federal regulatory agencies.  She has significant experience representing for-profit and nonprofit organizations, helping them to address issues of concern to physicians, dentists, and patient groups.  Allen most recently served as Vice-President and Managing Director for a business development and government relations firm, representing companies who sought to enter or expand their business within the federal market in such areas as information technology, Medicare and Medicaid integrity and identity management.

Allen joins a talented health legislative and regulatory affairs practice group with significant experience in provider practice and reimbursement issues, Medicare and Medicaid, patient care, appropriations, global health, health research and health information technology.  In the last year, the practice has grown substantially, with the addition of other senior lobbyists with experience working in the executive branch, on Capitol Hill and in leadership positions for national health care associations.  In addition, Jodie Curtis was elevated to Senior Government Relations Director and Erin Morton was promoted to Government Relations Manager.

“The extraordinary professionals we have added in the last year have allowed us to offer an expanded suite of representation and services to our clients in the health sector,” said Health Government Relations Practice leader Robert J. Waters. “We are thrilled to have built upon our already strong bench of team members, who are available to assist clients in their efforts to navigate new territory as health care reform is implemented.  We are helping our health care clients take advantage of new opportunities, as well as developing strategic responses to potential threats and challenges.”
