Chicago partner Ed Bryant was featured in the August 13 online edition of Modern Healthcare, considered to be the leading publication covering the healthcare industry. Ed commented on the recent Federal Trade Commission (FTC) ruling on Evanston Northwestern Healthcare's 2000 acquisition of Highland Park Hospital. He called the FTC's solution, "the most unrealistic approach I've ever seen. I can't imagine a court would say that makes any sense from a business point of view. They [the FTC] don't want to concede this is a case they should have lost."

Ed, who's handled approximately 140 hospital mergers and acquisitions, characterized the FTC's ruling as a face-saving move that recognizes it doesn't make sense to separate the hospitals seven years after the merger.
