Products Liability partner Kenneth Murphy spoke at the CLE “Standing on the Shoulders: The Black Philadelphia Lawyer” on October 26, 2018.

This event, which was organized by Tucker Law Group, covered topics including early pioneers in the legal field, racial discrimination in bar admissions, practicing law in black and white firms, and how race matters at various stages in the civil and criminal litigation process. The program materials included a comprehensive chronology, detailed bibliography, rare photographs and historical documents that track the 170-year history of the Black Philadelphia Lawyer. Ken’s presentation addressed the advent of Black lawyers to Philadelphia’s majority firms- beginning with William T. Coleman, Jr. in 1952- and the retention statistics that chronicle that experience.
