Washington, D. C., partner T. J. Sullivan spoke at the American Health Lawyers Association’s (AHLA) Tax Issues for Health Care Organizations program on October 26. The annual program includes sessions on IRS regulations, exemption standards, enforcement initiatives, state and federal exchanges, and the Affordable Care Act.

T. J.’s presentation, “They’re Back! Sales/Conversions of Nonprofit Hospitals and Health Plans,” covered the following topics:

  • Sales to investor-owned chains and 50-50 joint ventures
  • Health plan conversions, specialty hospitals and physician ownership
  • Varied forms of consolidation to meet market pressures
  • Protecting the community interest while satisfying regulatory requirements
