Los Angeles counsel Paul Gelb co-presented a CLE on “Cyber Liability in the Connected Car” on August 30, 2018. Hugh Taylor, president of Taylor Communications, LLC, and Professor Kimberly Diamond of Fordham University also contributed to the discussion.

Paul outlined some potential legal issues related to the rise of connected cars, including new problems resulting from cars changing from being purely mechanical to being computer-driven. In particular, he considered the challenge of figuring out who (state or federal legislatures) will govern the standards for data privacy and security in these cars. He also raised questions as to what may constitute a reasonable expectations of privacy, as well as uncertainty about the ownership of the data.
