Washington, D.C., counsel Katherine Armstrong spoke at the 2017 Association of Corporate Counsel Annual Meeting as part of the Information Governance Committee. Her panel, “The U.S. Federal Trade Commission on Unfairness, Deception, and Consumer Privacy Enforcement Actions,” outlined how the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection has enforced consumer data privacy rights and recommended steps for risk mitigation and consumer information protection.

Katherine was joined by David Shonka, Acting General Counsel of the FTC, Matthew Nelson, VP Data Liaison Services at DiscoverReady and Eric Wegner, Director for Cybersecurity at Cisco. The panel provided case studies to help attendees understand the scope and authority of FTC consumer protection regulation and the role of a Civil Investigative Demand.
