Reforms, Regulations & Retirement Realities
Overview
Los Angeles partners Fred Reish and Heather Abrigo spoke at the American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries Annual Conference (ASPPA), which took place from October 22-25 in National Harbor, Maryland.
The conference brought more than 1,500 retirement plan industry professionals together for educational sessions on administration, business development, consulting, defined benefit, fiduciary and recordkeeping topics.
Fred presented “DOL Fiduciary Regulations in the Trump Era,” a workshop that explored the latest developments in the Department of Labor (DOL) fiduciary regulations, enforcement and potential legislative changes. Fred also served as a panelist in an “Ask the Experts” session that allowed attendees to ask their most pressing industry questions.
Heather presented “Fiduciary Case Studies,” a workshop that discussed current fiduciary case studies and the implications of those situations. Heather also presented “Trends in Government Audits and Investigations,” which looked at real-life examples of DOL investigations and IRS audits of plans and service providers to help plan sponsors make better preparations. Heather also participated in ASPPA Squares, an entertainment session based on current events in today’s retirement plan world, modeled after the “Hollywood Squares” game show. Lastly, as ASPPA Chair of Conferences, Heather moderated several sessions ranging from international pension plan issues to 3(16) fiduciary services.
