Rachael Dettmann Spiegel Addresses Animal Feed and Pet Food Industry Takeaways on ‘FeedStuffs in Focus’ Podcast

In “Post-COVID regulatory environment brings increase in enforcement,” product liability and mass torts partner Rachael Dettmann Spiegel shared insight on what to expect for the animal feed and pet food industries moving into 2024 on the “FeedStuffs in Focus” podcast.

Dettmann Spiegel noted that product recall procedures, enforcement readiness, matters related to staffing and the creation of a safety culture are among the top issues of importance for the feed and pet food industry. She said there has been an increase in inspections and enforcement on the part of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in this post-COVID era.

In particular, Dettmann Spiegel explained that the FDA is looking at companies from more of a complete perspective, making visits to all manufacturing facilities rather than picking and choosing just a few to visit. She also addressed the importance of having contracts in place with suppliers, establishing a safety culture throughout the team and ensuring product recall preparations are in place.
