Our Real Estate Practice Group represents both owners and users — landlords and tenants — in office, retail and industrial lease transactions throughout the country. We combine our legal experience with an understanding of the business needs and objectives of our clients to provide practical advice and facilitate successful completion of the transaction.

Our landlord clients include some of the most prominent names in the industry. We are able to leverage our market knowledge and experience to offer timely and value-oriented service, with the goal of providing our clients a competitive edge in a demanding marketplace.

On the tenant side, we have long-standing relationships with large consumers of leased space throughout the country, including office users and several national retail chains. Our ability to focus on the business needs of our tenant clients, no matter the size or geographic location of the space, allows us to complete transactions efficiently and effectively.

In addition to traditional space leases, our lawyers are experienced in ground leases, air rights leases, master leases, sale/leasebacks, credit tenant leases, and leases of undivided and other partial interests.

Representative Engagements:

• National counsel to Urban Outfitters, Inc. (and affiliates Anthropologie, Inc., and Free People, LLC) in connection with the international roll-out of retail stores which now number in excess of 150 from Los Angeles, to Montreal, to New York City and Boston, to London.
• Represented Charming Shoppes, Inc. in real estate due diligence in conjunction with multiple corporate acquisitions involving the evaluation of hundreds of sites and leases.
• Represented the master tenant in connection with long-term ground lease of the Newark Legal and Communications Center in Newark, N.J., from The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Continue to represent the master tenant in connection with the leasing activity in this facility.
• Counsel to the owner of Center City Philadelphia’s premier office and retail complex including the drafting and negotiation of all leases for office and retail tenants.
• National counsel to a major insurance company in connection with office leasing and other real estate transactions.
• Landlord’s counsel in repositioning and releasing 650,000 square feet of office space in a downtown Chicago building.
• National counsel regarding office leasing requirements of an international executive search firm with offices in major urban centers throughout the United States.
• Represented a landlord leasing more than 1.75 million square feet of office space in a multi-use complex in downtown Chicago.
• National representation of an expanding residential furniture retailer.
• Represented a landlord leasing Midwest portfolio of foreign government pension investment vehicle, including a 2.5 million square-foot office complex in downtown Chicago.
• Represent several prominent landlords in their general leasing matters.
• Represented a developer in negotiations with an international pharmaceutical company which will lease an existing building and have options to occupy other buildings on a build-to-suit basis for a total of approximately 1 million square feet which will be used as a domestic administrative and research and development facility.
