Washington, D.C., partner Janet Fries spoke at a forum on the recent sale of the collection of works by photographer Nestor Hernandez at public auction. The forum, “Scattered Treasures: Losing the Legacy of Photographer Nestor Hernandez,” was presented by the Exposure Group African American Photographers Association and the Moorland-Spingarn Research Center at Howard University. The panel discussed the recent public auction of the collection of the D.C.-area photographer and the need to be more aggressive in protecting family collections. The forum, held October 15 at the Historical Society of Washington, D.C., was open to the public and included an archivist, a member of the Hernandez family, an appraiser and a collector, as well as Janet, who was speaking as an arts attorney.
