Tony L. Mitchell represents the interests of health care clients, including non-profits, for-profit, and global health organizations in furtherance of their legislative and regulatory goals. Tony is proficient in relationship building, advocacy and product commercialization.
Prior to joining the District Policy Group, Tony was the Manager of Health Policy for JDRF, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, where he tracked and monitored Medicare and commercial health plan coverage policies related to type 1 diabetes-related therapies and artificial pancreas technologies. While at JDRF, Tony worked closely with the Legislative Team to support the lobbyists in their efforts to secure funding and reauthorization of the Special Diabetes Program and make progress with respect to expanding Medicare payment and coverage for Continuous Glucose Monitors.
Tony also has a deep understanding of the for-profit health care industry from his time as a Senior Associate in the Reimbursement and Product Commercialization Practice at Avalere Health, LLC, as well as through his work as a Health Policy Fellow with Novo Nordisk. In those roles Tony developed proficiency in understanding market access triggers as they pertain to pharmaceuticals as well as Medicare Part D coverage policies. Through his work both on the Hill as an intern in the Office of Congressman Sanford Bishop and as a Summer Fellow at the Podesta Group, Tony also has an in depth understanding of both Capitol Hill and the legislative process.
