Alan J. Joaquin handles insurance coverage litigation relating to directors and officers liability insurance, various forms of errors and omissions coverage, cyber liability insurance, bad faith, fiduciary liability, investment advisor and mutual fund policies and fidelity bonds. Alan has also been appointed by insurers to represent them in reinsurance disputes and to defend their insureds in various matters, including legal malpractice actions and insurance broker disputes. He has investigated and negotiated the settlement of various types of claims, and has successfully defended insurers' interests in litigation in both federal and state courts.
Alan is also extensively involved in white collar criminal defense and in consultation relating to criminal and civil aspects of the health care fraud and abuse statutes and regulations.
Alan has lectured before insurers on issues relating to various types of policies and is active in the American Bar Association's Insurance Litigation and Torts and Insurance Practice Sections.
Prior to joining Drinker Biddle, Alan spent three years with the U.S. Department of Justice as a trial attorney for the Criminal Division's Fraud Section. His cases primarily involved fraud committed by or against financial institutions, pharmaceutical companies, home health care facilities and durable medical equipment providers. Alan also worked extensively with the Department of Health and Human Services in matters involving the Medicare/Medicaid Anti-Kickback Statute and its corresponding "safe harbor" regulations.
