Darren S. Cahr is a partner of the Intellectual Property Practice Group and chair of the Firm's Advertising and Promotions practice.  Darren counsels clients on a variety of matters, ranging from trademarks, copyrights and social media to parallel imports, advertising and promotion law.  Darren has litigated and tried intellectual property and unfair competition cases in trial and appellate courts around the nation, and has participated in challenges before administrative agencies, arbitration forums and self-regulatory bodies.  Darren also conducts internal investigations regarding misappropriation of proprietary rights, develops IP enforcement strategies, creates branding policies, reviews advertising for compliance with regulatory standards and crafts promotion tactics.  In short, Darren’s practice is directed to assisting clients in better understanding the value of their intangible assets, and building strategies for protecting those assets and capitalizing on their value.

Darren is a published author on topics of politics and popular culture, and posts regularly at www.legallysocial.com, his blog on social media, intellectual property and the law, and on Twitter @legallysocial.  Darren is a member of the Famous and Well-Known Marks Committee of the International Trademark Association and the Promotion Marketing Association. He speaks on issues involving new media and intellectual property throughout the country. Darren was recently recognized by World Trademark Review magazine for his ability to deliver "smart, thorough and fast" counsel to clients on prosecution and strategy issues. He received a bronze ranking in the publication's WTR 1000 for 2013. Since 2007, he has also been chosen each year by his peers as one of The Best Lawyers in America® in the category of advertising law and as a "Leading Lawyer" in the areas of Advertising & Media Law and Intellectual Property. Since 2006, he has been selected each year by his peers as one of "Illinois' Super Lawyers" for intellectual property in a survey conducted by Chicago magazine and Law & Politics
