Julie Scott Allen Quoted in Modern Healthcare

Washington, D.C., government relations director Julie Scott Allen was quoted in Modern Healthcare on pledges by the nation’s biggest health insurers made ahead of the Supreme Court’s ruling on the validity of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

Aetna, Health Net, Humana and UnitedHealthcare all released statements saying they would continue to cover some provisions in the Affordable Care Act, regardless of the Supreme Court’s decision.

Julie said that she was not surprised by the announcements and that it's smart for insurers to push out ahead of the unknown. She also said, however, that the provisions they chose are predictable.

"Some of these things are low-hanging fruit," she said.

"Some of the insurers were already covering young adults, so this is not earth-shattering," she said. "There's a much better handle on the costs associated with these changes, so it's not going to make them unprofitable."
