Jesse Ruiz to Serve on ABA Hispanic Legal Rights Advisory Committee

Chicago partner Jesse Ruiz has been invited to serve on the Advisory Committee to the ABA Presidential Commission on Hispanic Legal Rights and Responsibilities, to be formed by American Bar Association President, Stephen N. Zack. The Commission will address legal issues facing the Hispanic American community – the largest and fastest growing minority group in the United States – and will develop a comprehensive report detailing these issues in its inaugural year. Issues such as immigration, access to the courts, voting rights and the impact of the 2010 census will be on the agenda. The report will inform development of ABA policy resolutions and eventually provide recommendations for Congressional and Administration policymakers. Jesse, Chairman of the Illinois State Board of Education and co-chair of the firm's Diversity Committee, will join other distinguished lawyers, as well as judges, educators and community leaders on the 15-member committee. Jesse was invited to join as his “commitment to justice and distinguished work would provide a much needed perspective,” according to ABA President, Stephan Zack.
