B Lab Names Bill Clark Pro Bono MVP

Berwyn, Pa.-based B Lab named Philadelphia partner Bill Clark 2010 B Corp Champions Retreat MVP for clocking “over 1,000,001 hours of pro bono work” (that’s B Lab’s number, as yet unverified by Drinker Biddle’s times records!) helping B Lab advance Benefit Corporation legislation throughout the United States. The legislation creates a new type of corporation - one that uses the power of business to solve social and environmental problems. The legislation was drafted by Bill with guidance from B Lab. According to the B Corporation Blog, “Benefit Corp legislation would not have been signed into law in Maryland or Vermont, or be moving forward in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and a half dozen other states without Bill’s tireless efforts.” The Blog recognizes Bill’s personal dedication as well as the support of the firm as “examples of the power of individuals and individual companies to make significant contributions to advance the sustainable business movement.”

Naturally, the 60+ CEOs at the Champions Retreat agreed that the fastest and most practical way to advance Benefit Corporation legislation around the country would be to clone Bill.
