Mark D. Sheridan is a partner in the firm’s Commercial Litigation Practice Group. Named to the New Jersey Law Journal’s “40 Under 40” for 2009, Mark’s broad practice involves government affairs, commercial litigation and insurance coverage litigation.
Government Affairs. Mark advises clients in matters involving the interplay between business and government at all levels. His government affairs practice includes the representation of businesses in their dealings with state and federal regulators, as well as in related litigation.
Mark’s government affairs practice also extends into the world of politics. He is currently the general counsel for the New Jersey Republican State Committee where he represents the New Jersey Republican Party and the political committees of the Republican legislative leadership in matters involving campaign finance, constitutional litigation and election law litigation. He also represents the Republican National Committee in connection with campaign finance matters and election law litigation. Mark was also a member of Governor Chris Christie’s transition team.
Notably, Mark was counsel for Senate Minority Leader Leonard Lance and Assembly Minority Leader Alex DeCroce in the landmark decision of Lance v. McGreevey 180 N.J. 591 (2004) where he successfully argued before the New Jersey State Supreme Court that then-Governor James McGreevey’s plan to balance the state budget through the issuance of tax revenue bonds was unconstitutional.
Commercial Litigation. Representing a broad base of clients in the manufacturing, insurance, real estate and professional services industries, Mark advocates on behalf of those clients in courts throughout the country. He has trial and appellate experience in state and federal courts.
Insurance. Mark represents insurers in connection with complex insurance coverage disputes. In this capacity, he counsels clients on coverage determinations, policy drafting and litigation. The majority of his time is spent representing insurance carriers in connection with insurance coverage litigation arising out of intellectual property disputes.
In General. Mark is admitted to the New Jersey State Bar, the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey, the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, the United States District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin, as well as the United States Court of Appeals for the First, Third, Fourth and Ninth Circuits.
Mark is also actively involved in community activities. He currently serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of Carrier Clinic, a private, not-for-profit behavioral health care system located in Skillman, New Jersey that specializes in psychiatric and addiction treatment.
