Counsel

Maria L. H. Lewis is counsel in the firm’s Labor & Employment Practice Group. Her practice areas include labor and employment litigation and commercial litigation. In addition, Maria counsels clients on compliance issues and conducts diversity training.

In 2008, The Legal Intelligencer and the Pennsylvania Law Weekly selected Ms. Lewis as a "2008 Lawyer on the Fast Track" - an award given to Pennsylvania lawyers under 40 who have shown "outstanding promise in the legal profession" and have made "a significant commitment to the community-at-large."  In 2006, The Legal Intelligencer in Philadelphia named Maria as a woman "On the Verge" in the legal community. In addition, Maria was selected as a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer Rising Star for 2006 in the area of employment litigation defense.

Before entering private practice, Maria served as an assistant district attorney at the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office, where she tried hundreds of preliminary hearings and bench trials.

In General. While attending the Harvard Law School, Maria was a member of the Trial Moot Court Team and participated in the National Criminal Justice Trial Advocacy Competition of the American Bar Association. She was also an editor on the Black Letter Law Journal and served as the annual conference co-chair and historian for the Black Law Students Association. Additionally, Maria was a research editor for Archibald Cox: Conscience of a Nation, authored by Professor Kenneth Gormley.

While at the University of Pittsburgh, the university honored Maria for her academic and public service accomplishments by naming her "Senior of the Year" and inscribing her name on the university walkway. She was also a Rhodes Scholar semi-finalist.

Maria is an associate minister and serves on the legal staff of the Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church in Philadelphia. She is also a member of the American, Pennsylvania, and Philadelphia Bar Associations, the National Bar Association and the Barristers' Association of Philadelphia.
