Associate
Matthew S. Barndt is an associate in the Commercial Litigation Practice Group and a member of the Construction, Government Contracts & Real Estate Litigation team, as well as a member of the Life Insurance & Annuities Practice Group’s Secondary Market Team. Matthew’s practice focuses on commercial and construction disputes and appeals, but he has experience litigating in a variety of practice areas. Matthew also has first-chair jury trial experience in federal court.
Commercial Litigation. Matthew has represented all types of businesses in a variety of commercial disputes. His experience includes:
- representing a national accounting firm in an accounting malpractice action;
- defending a private company in class action litigation involving the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) and the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO); and
- representing a national life insurance company in Stranger-Originated Life Insurance (STOLI) litigation; and
- representing a professional sports franchise in various business disputes.
Matthew’s litigation experience also includes appeals, contract litigation, partnership and shareholder disputes, non-compete and restrictive covenant litigation, employment agreement and wrongful discharge claims, land use and real estate disputes, environmental contamination litigation and civil rights litigation.
Construction Law. Matthew has represented owners, developers and contractors in litigation and alternative dispute resolution involving a variety of construction disputes, including claims for breach of contract, construction defects and construction liens. Matthew also has experience drafting construction and architectural agreements, including agreements involving the design and construction of environmentally-sound green buildings.
Clerkship. Prior to joining the firm, Matthew clerked with the Hon. Anthony J. Parrillo, New Jersey Superior Court, Appellate Division in Trenton, N.J.
Education. Matthew earned his J.D. from the College of William and Mary, Marshall-Wythe School of Law in 2006, where he served as a notes editor of the
William and Mary Law Review and as a member of the Moot Court Team. During law school, he also served as an intern for the Hon. Tommy E. Miller, of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia and the Hon. Elizabeth A. McClanahan, of the Court of Appeals of Virginia. Matthew received his bachelor’s degree from the Pennsylvania State University in 2003.
Professional Associations. Matthew serves as the Treasurer and Secretary for the Princeton Bar Association, and is also a member of the Mercer County Bar Association, American Bar Association, New Jersey Bar Association and Pennsylvania Bar Association. Matthew is a Life Member of the Penn State Alumni Association, and has served on the board of the Lion Ambassador Alumni Interest Group and as the Career Services Chair of the Central New Jersey Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association.
