Chicago partner Ken Dort authored a chapter in Understanding Developments in Cyberspace Law: Leading Lawyers on Analyzing Recent Trends, Case Laws, and Legal Strategies Affecting the Internet Landscape. The book emphasizes the importance for lawyers to become familiar with the regulations and court decisions that apply to cyberspace, because most, if not all, law will involve the internet at some point.

Ken’s chapter reviews recent cyber trends in the US and EU such as the developments leading up to the recent invalidation of the US Safe Harbor, the expansion of FTC activity in the data security/privacy arena, the growth of data localization requirements in the EU, Russia and the Far East, and the efforts in the EU to replace the Data Protection Directive with the soon-to-be-implemented General Data Protection Regulation.
