On November 18 in Brussels, Belgium, Drinker Biddle co-sponsored (with EU-based law firm Lorenz) a seminar on “Enabling International Data Transfers in a Globalized World.”

The seminar was widely attended by representatives of the pharmaceutical and medical device industries. Peter Blenkinsop, a partner in the Government Relations and Regulatory Affairs group, played a leading role in organizing and moderating the seminar. The seminar included presentations on comparison of the APEC Cross-Border Privacy Rules and European Binding Corporate Rules, updates on data privacy developments in Russia, the future of the EU-US Safe Harbor framework and a discussion on the proposed EU General Data Protection Regulation’s potential impact on international data transfer requirements and legal options.

The recently appointed Secretary of State for Privacy and Social Fraud in Belgium, Mr. Bart Tommelein, provided the keynote address.

If you have any interest in the materials from this seminar or any questions regarding the challenges of international data transfers, please contact Jacquelyn Queirolo at Jacquelyn.Queirolo dbr.com or (202) 230-5642.
