Tony L. Mitchell has joined Drinker Biddle & Reath’s Government and Regulatory Affairs Group as a Senior Government Relations Manager, further expanding the firm’s capacity to serve clients across industries. He is also joining as a member of the District Policy Group, the firm’s boutique lobbying, public policy, and advocacy practice.

Mr. Mitchell’s addition continues a year of growth and momentum for the District Policy Group. Earlier this year, the District Policy Group added Bryan R. Tackett, Sarah Mills and Katie Christophersen to its team, growing its talent pool of bipartisan lobbyists and public policy professionals. In October, Ilisa Halpern Paul, president of the District Policy Group, was recognized for the second time as one of the top federal lobbyists by The Hill.

“Tony brings in-depth insight and deep policy knowledge to our clients stemming from his experience working with companies, organizations and stakeholders in the health care industry,” said Ilisa Halpern Paul, president of the District Policy Group. “He understands both for-profit and nonprofit health care through his previous work as an in-house policy staffer as well as a consultant to pharmaceutical companies.”

Mr. Mitchell represents health care clients, including nonprofits, for-profit and global health organizations in their legislative, regulatory and grassroots advocacy efforts. He most recently served as manager of health policy for the JDRF (formerly known as the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation), where he tracked and monitored Medicare and commercial health plan coverage policies related to type 1 diabetes-related therapies and artificial pancreas technologies. He also worked closely with the JDRF Legislative Team to support and reauthorize the federal Special Diabetes Program and make progress with respect to expanding Medicare payment and coverage for Continuous Glucose Monitors.

His experience in the for-profit health care industry, includes serving as a senior associate in the reimbursement and product commercialization practice at Avalere Health, LLC, and as a health policy fellow with Novo Nordisk. In those roles, Mr. Mitchell worked on analyzing market access triggers in Medicare Part D coverage policies. Mr. Mitchell also worked on Capitol Hill as an intern in the office of U.S. Rep. Sanford Bishop (D-Ga.).
