Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP continues to enhance its Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation Practice Group with the addition of Richard J. Pearl, who joins as counsel residing in the firm’s Chicago office. He will work closely with Ted Becker and the rest of the firm’s highly-regarded ERISA litigation team.

“Rick’s experience handling ERISA and other complex commercial litigation matters expands our capabilities as clients look to efficiently and effectively reduce the risk of, and defend against, a variety of ERISA claims,” said Sarah Bassler Millar, Partner and Chair of Drinker Biddle’s Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation Group. “He is well respected among his peers and his addition further aids in the growth of the Chicago office and the practice overall.”

Mr. Pearl represents companies, their directors and officers, ERISA plan fiduciaries, and service providers in ERISA litigation, and counsels plan sponsors, internal and external fiduciaries, and others on ERISA insurance-procurement, insurance, and indemnification issues. He has also worked on number of high-profile Employee Stock Ownership Plan lawsuits.

During the course of his career, Mr. Pearl has handled a variety of complex commercial litigation matters, including co-chairing a four-week RICO jury trial in federal court, defending class actions for retail industry clients, and leading aspects of large, multi-year litigations in the medical device and mass tort areas.

In addition to his legal practice, Mr. Pearl is a CLIO-award winning songwriter and producer. Some of the artists he has worked with include Lady Gaga and Pitbull.

Mr. Pearl earned his law degree from Loyola University Chicago School of Law and his B.S. in Psychology and Philosophy from Northern Illinois University.
