Andrea Best, partner and head of Drinker Biddle’s London office, was profiled as a part of Reactions magazine’s feature on the Leading Women in Insurance. Some of the other women recognized included Inga Beale, CEO of Lloyd’s, and Kathleen Reardon, CEO of Hamilton Re.

In the special supplement of the prominent reinsurance magazine, Andrea provided her take on increasing diversity and inclusion in the insurance field and shared her own perspectives and personal experiences about how the industry needs to change to help more women succeed.

She wrote that the legal profession has seen more progress in gender diversity than the London insurance market, but there’s still a long way to go in both industries. She mentioned that she strives to be a mentor for female associates in hopes that they will continue to advance in their careers.

“In my opinion there is not any one single solution, but more likely a patchwork quilt of multiple solutions such as flexible working hours for men and women—without any stigma being attached to those taking advantage of these options— as well as increased mentoring and networking opportunities, particularly at the senior level, to increase retention and promotion.”

Andrea focuses her practice on insurance regulatory compliance throughout the U.S. and works with insurers, reinsurers, intermediaries, brokers, trade associations and others in the insurance market. She actively monitors state insurance-related legislative and regulatory developments, and works extensively with London, Bermuda and European insurance market participants regarding non-admitted insurance and reinsurance transactions in the U.S. Andrea has her law degree from Georgetown University Law Center.
