James H. Millar has joined Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP as a partner in the firm’s Corporate Restructuring Practice Group.

Millar has nearly 20 years of experience advising clients on all aspects of financial restructuring across multiple industries.  In particular, he has a depth of experience working with funds and other distressed players that regularly participate in bankruptcy cases and other situations involving financial distress.  He is currently representing, among other clients, a group of holders of first lien debt of Energy Future Intermediate Holding Company LLC.

“We are delighted to welcome Jim to Drinker Biddle & Reath,” said Alfred W. Putnam Jr., Chairman of the firm. “He brings high-level experience and an outstanding reputation in his field and he complements our already deep bench in corporate restructuring services.  His arrival in New York is our latest success in growing that office to better serve our clients,” Putnam added, referencing the tripling of the office’s size since its move to midtown New York in 2011.

“Jim’s broad skill set adds litigation and restructuring depth to our New York office,” said Kristin K. Going, Chair of the firm’s Corporate Restructuring Practice Group.  “His practice aligns well with our current clients, particularly his representation of bondholders and other distressed debt investors; but most of all, Jim’s dedication to his clients and focus on recent developments in the restructuring industry make him a natural fit within the culture of our restructuring practice group.”

Millar is a recent speaker on bankruptcy matters across the United States, and has been widely published in bankruptcy journals.   He earned his J.D. from the University of Colorado School of Law in 1995, where he was Order of the Coif, and his B.S. in Civil Engineering from Colorado State University, where he was a member of the Chi Epsilon civil engineering honor society.  He is also a Professional Engineer and a licensed commercial pilot.

“I’m thrilled to join such a well-respected firm with a great team,” said Millar. “Drinker Biddle is a firm built on traditional values, yet it strives for innovative solutions for its clients. Its nationally recognized bankruptcy practice presents a terrific platform for me to continue to grow my practice.”
