Chicago counsel Joan Koenig was quoted in a Law360 article titled, “Intevac Deal Offers A Warning On ‘Deemed Export’ Rules.”
The article discusses the U.S. Department of Commerce’s settlement with Intevac Inc., which was accused of improperly releasing controlled technology information to a Russian employee. The settlement highlights the need for companies to consider so-called deemed export rules when they have foreign nationals on the payroll.
Joan said, “If you have foreign nationals, and you have technology of any kind” that may be covered under the U.S. export control regime, “you absolutely have to have a process around your hiring of foreign persons.”
