Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP announced today that Jason R. Baron, the former Director of Litigation for the U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), has joined the firm’s Information Governance and eDiscovery Group. Jason will serve as Of Counsel out of the firm’s Washington, D.C., office.

“Over the last 25 years, Jason has been at the center of a revolution in how documents and records are handled.  As a result, he is one of the nation’s most knowledgeable experts in the area of eDiscovery and electronic recordkeeping, and we are thrilled to welcome him to the firm,” said Alfred W. Putnam, Jr., Chairman of Drinker Biddle. “His unparalleled knowledge in the field will be invaluable to our clients, further bolstering our tremendous eDiscovery team, which has already grown this year with the addition of Bennett Borden and Jay Brudz.”

During his tenure at NARA, Jason represented the organization as co-chair on the steering committee of The Sedona Conference Working Group on electronic document retention and production, and has served as an editor-in-chief on three Sedona commentaries. He was also a founding co-coordinator of the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology TREC Legal Track. Prior to joining NARA, he held the positions of trial attorney and senior counsel in the U.S. Department of Justice, where during the 1990s he acted as lead counsel in landmark litigation involving the preservation of White House e-mail.

“I believe the practice Bennett and Jay are building in the information governance and eDiscovery area makes Drinker Biddle one of the leading, forward thinking firms in this space, and I am delighted at this stage of my career to be able to join their practice group," Jason said. “I share the group’s vision for helping clients successfully navigate their many eDiscovery challenges, which is vital in a world where big data is only getting bigger and more complex."

Long seen as an innovator in the field, Jason was recently recognized as an eDiscovery “trailblazer” as part of The American Lawyer’s “Top 50 Big Law Innovators of the Last 50 Years.”  He was also the 2011 recipient of the prestigious international Emmett Leahy Award, recognizing his career contributions in the field of records and information management.

"Bringing in someone with Jason's talent and experience will extend what is already an extraordinarily deep bench at Drinker Biddle in this practice area," said Bennett Borden, Co-Chair of the Information Governance and eDiscovery Group. "We are excited to launch a number of new initiatives and further expand on the value and service we provide our clients with Jason on the team."

Jason received his B.A. degree, magna cum laude, from Wesleyan University, and his J.D. from the Boston University School of Law.
