Washington, D.C., associate Nathan Pollard’s article, “Orphan Works: Return from the Dead (or Dying)” was published in Bloomberg BNA’s Patent, Trademark & Copyright Journal.

In the article, Nathan notes that orphan works – copyrighted works whose owners are difficult or impossible to locate -- have been the subject of hearings and legislation in Congress and present a problem that has yet to be resolved. 

His article addresses the background to and legislative history related to orphan works, the ill-fated Google Books Settlement, international developments and what the future holds.  He also details the recent Copyright Office Notice of Inquiry related to orphan works and mass digitization and the comments submitted.
