Michael J. Remington

Mike is a partner in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office in the Intellectual Property Practice Group. He is a member of the firm’s Alumni Advisory Committee and is also Chair of the firm’s Political Action Committee.

Mike’s Practice: Mike has over 30 years of experience in IP law, legal reform, government relations and lobbying. Mike’s clients include a performing rights organization comprising thousands of songwriters and music publishers, a major business trade association, a prominent university foundation involved in technology licensing, a bio-pharmaceutical trade association, a national coalition of photographic industry and photofinishing interests, and individual authors and creators.

Recently, he has been representing clients on the America Invents Act and the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, among other pieces of legislation. He also serves as an expert witness on legislative history in patent and copyright cases, and has testified before Congress on several occasions.

In General:
Mike earned his B.S. from the University of Wisconsin and graduated from the University of Wisconsin Law School, cum laude (Order of the Coif). Mike is admitted to practice law in Wisconsin and the District of Columbia.

Mike previously served as counsel to the U.S. House of Representatives for enactment of over 20 public laws including the Semiconductor Chip Protection Act of 1984, the Government Research and Development Patent Policy Amendments, the Berne Convention Implementation Act, the Satellite Home Viewer Act, the Trademark Law Revision Act, the Architectural Works Copyright Protection Act and the Process Patent Amendments Act of 1988. For nine years, he was chief counsel of the Judiciary Subcommittee of the U.S. House of Representatives on Intellectual Property and Judicial Administration.

Personal Information: Mike is a former Peace Corp Volunteer (in Ivory Coast) and Fulbright Scholar (Paris, France). He is the proud father of three children (now grown) from India. His wife is French, which requires Mike to speak French and to travel as often as possible to a family home is Provence.
