David F. Abernethy

David is a partner in the firm’s Philadelphia office and a member of its Alumni Advisory Committee. He served for more than 10 years as the firm’s pro bono partner and continues to serve as a member of its Public Interest Committee.

David’s Practice: David concentrates his practice on the defense of products liability actions, primarily involving pharmaceutical products and medical devices and chemical products. He also handles a wide range of commercial litigation including representing insurers in coverage disputes under directors’ and officers’ and general liability policies, defending consumer class actions, and handling commercial contract, fraud and business tort cases. He has handled numerous appeals in asbestos, products and other cases in state and federal courts.

In General: David graduated from Syracuse University in 1980 and from the Syracuse University College of Law in 1982, both summa cum laude. He is admitted to practice law in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Before joining the firm, David served in the United States Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps, where he gained extensive trial experience as a prosecuting attorney.

Personal Information: David and his wife have been married for 29 years. They have two grown sons, a software engineer who lives and works in San Francisco, and a massage therapist practicing in the Philadelphia area. David is active in pro bono legal work and in his synagogue.
