Managing Government Relations Director Ilisa Halpern Paul shared her thoughts with Roll Call on the Lobbying & Advocacy Team’s “Dewonkify” project – a new feature on the Capitol Health Record blog.
The aim of the project is to boil down to plain English at least one government-related buzzword per week to help keep readers abreast of what’s really going on in the capital.
“We hope to take words that people outside the Beltway are hearing at that moment and help people to feel comfortable with their meanings,” said Ilisa.
She explained that a friend planted the seed for the project by praising the group’s ability to break down complex issues into easily digestible bites for their clients. The group now solicits suggestions for the “dewonkify” treatment from friends, clients and even Twitter followers.
Ilisa said the plan is to put “SGR,” “offsets/pay fors” and “Christmas tree bill” to rest during the remainder of the lame duck and to begin tackling appropriations and budget-related terminology once 2013 rolls around.
