Philadelphia partner Kate Deal participated as a panelist for “Twitter in the Court: Social Media Issues for Judges, Lawyers and Jurors” at the Third Circuit Judicial Conference on April 19, 2017.
In an increasingly connected world, participants in the legal process must learn to navigate the intersection of social media and law, and the complications that can arise from using Twitter and other networks in the courtroom. The Hon. Lawrence F. Stengel from the Eastern District of Pennsylvania moderated the discussion. Kate was joined by fellow speakers Micah U. Buchdahl, president of HTMLawyers, Inc., and Cynthia L. Dahl, practice associate professor of law from the University of Pennsylvania Law School.
The annual Third Circuit Judicial Conference focused on the business of the courts and matters important to the administration of justice in the Third Circuit. Sessions covered topics such as the intersection of individual rights and advances in technology, current issues in class actions, and the science on eyewitness identification. Guest speakers included Justice Samuel A. Alito, Jr., who spoke at the luncheon on April 20, and the Honorable Michael Chertoff, former Secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, who delivered a keynote address at the opening dinner.
