Chicago partner Jennifer Breuer moderated a webinar titled “Telemedicine Series 2016: New Frontiers in Telemedicine – Supervision and Non-Physician Practitioner Issues,” on Wednesday, September 28. Telemedicine is widely viewed as a means to increase access to primary and preventive care services as more and more people have insurance coverage but the United States is faced with a primary care physician shortage. However, the regulatory landscape for the provision of needed telemedicine services through non-physician practitioners remains uneven and creates certain pitfalls for telemedicine providers. This webinar will address the requirements for supervision of licensed and unlicensed personnel, scope of practice issues, requirements for the establishment of a physician–patient relationship, and some of the other practical challenges in implementing a telemedicine program.
